Rust and Bone star Matthias Schoenaerts is in final talks to play opposite Michelle Williams and Kristin Scott Thomas in Suite Francaise, according to recent reports. The adaptation of Irene Nemirovsky’s best-selling novel of the same name is helmed and adapted by Saul Dibb (The Dutchess) and is on track to shoot in Hungary next spring.
Williams will be starring as Lucille Angellier, a spirited French woman who finds herself romantically attracted to Bruno, a German officer (Schoenaerts) working in her occupied nation and, more specifically, taking up space in her home. Although married, Lucille’s relationship with her husband has never been truly dynamic; she’s only left with a domineering mother-in-law (Thomas).
Following a remarkable performance in the Belgian film Bullhead, Brussels native Schoenaerts has certainly been on the rise. After that film was Oscar-animated, it looks like Jacques Audiard‘s drama will follow a similar path this year. He’ll also be seen in the upcoming, third-time re-make of the The Loft for Warner Brothers. The English version of the thriller is directed (once again) by fellow Belgian, Erik van Looy and Schoenaerts even starred in the original Dutch version of Loft in 2008. [Daily Mail via The Playlist]
