Michael Mann fans may rejoice. Following recent news that his long-developing Enzo Ferrari biopic would boast Christian Bale as its lead, Paramount has announced its role as the distributor. But that’s not all: along with an official title, Enzo Ferrari (adding a thrilling first name to the long-assumed title), the picture’s added Noomi Rapace as the wife of an utterly consumed genius who doesn’t know how to express or direct affection. This is a Mann picture, after all. [THR]
Said wife, Laura Dominica, was forced to deal with a husband marked by a “tyrannical and manipulative nature, his pushing drivers to the breaking point (and even death), his hatred of his lifelong marriage and his many affairs.” (Brock Yates’ source material, Ferrari: The Man, the Cars, the Races, which has been worked into a script by Troy Kennedy Martin, and David Rayfield, and Mann, was perhaps not a sugar-coating affair.) Enzo Ferrari is expected to commence production in the summer of 2016.
Meanwhile, THR also tell us last year’s finest action picture, the Keanu Reeves-led John Wick, has secured two stars for its sequel. One, Ian McShane, is returning, which should means that one of the first film’s neatest elements — a New York City hotel meant exclusively for assassins — will factor in. The other, Common, is a newcomer, and he’ll play a major part as the “head of security for a female crime lord” — though that part hasn’t yet been announced. Little else is known about the title, save for the fact that the original’s co-director, Chad Stahelski, will soon (as in “this week”) kick off filming in New York and Italy. Make what you will of a global Wick; I only hope it doesn’t mean a change from small-scale thrills.
Lastly, Timecrimes director Nacho Vigalondo is already underway shooting his Anne Hathaway-led sci-fi film Colossal, so the rest of the cast has been revealed. Variety reports Dan Stevens, Jason Sudeikis, Tim Blake Nelson and Austin Stowell have joined the film, which tracks “a woman who moves back to her hometown after losing her job and boyfriend in New York, only to discover that she is somehow strangely connected to a giant creature that has materialized over Seoul and is wreaking havoc on the city.”
