Update: Universal Pictures has officially moved Jurassic Park 4 from next June to a later, undisclosed date. In an official statement they said the delay will give “the studio and filmmakers adequate time to bring audiences the best possible version of the fourth installment in Universal’s beloved franchise.”

They add, “We could not be more excited about the vision that Colin Trevorrow has created for this film, and we look forward to watching as he and the producers create another great chapter in this franchise’s storied history.” Variety also updates that Bryce Dallas Howard and David Oyelowo had meetings for lead roles and one can see the original story below as we await a new timeframe.

Just last week it looked as though things were going swimmingly with Jurassic Park 4 pre-production, as director Colin Trevorrow tweeted the above picture during a location scout, hinting that we’ll return Isla Nublar. According to some new reports, however, it seems like we’ll have to wait longer to have fun with these dinosaurs once again.

Picked up by AICN last night, a few people working on the film alerted that Universal Pictures have put the film on hold. While they’ve been deleted, concept artist Dean Sherriff tweeted “JP4 on hold” and digital assets manager Todd Smoyer said, “Hollywood makes and crushes dreams. Goodbye JP4″.

A source over at Jurassic Park 4 News revealed less dire events, that the film is just on a ” temporary hiatus” as producers figure out a way to restructure the film to deliver a more “epic” scope. Trevorrow is reportedly still on board, but there’s now some quarreling behind the scenes to come to a version that the studio desires. Word has it that about 80% of the art department duties have already been completed, so it’s quite far along in the pre-production stage.

If the above is true, we doubt Jurassic Park 4 will hit its intended release date of 13 months from now, on June 13th, 2014, but we’ll wait and see. In the meantime, perhaps this is a strong lesson for Hollywood to not set a release date before you’ve announced a producer, director, cast, crew or even a script that delivers what the studio desires.

What do you think about JP4‘s predicament? Are you upset it might not be in theaters this summer?
