Bloody Disgusting reports that Juliet Rylance is in final talks to join Ethan Hawke in director Scott Derrickson‘s untitled micro-budget found footage horror film. (I think they should just stick with that title right there.)
Produced by Jason Blum (Insidious, Paranormal Activity) and co-written by AICN’s own C. Robert Cargill, Derrickson’s film gains a seasoned stage thespian in the British-born Rylance, whose only other feature screen credit was 2005’s Animal. Here is a synopsis of the found footage project:
“Hawke plays a journalist who travels with his family around the country to investigate gruesome murders he turns into books. After he moves his family into a house where another family was murdered, the journo discovers found footage that unveils horrifying clues beyond what caused the original tragedy.”
So it’s something like Paranormal Activity meets 1408? I hope it’s better than that sounds. Derrickson previously directed the pretty-good Exorcism of Emily Rose… but he’s also responsible for the remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still. In other words, this could go either way.
Still, with Blum on board, expect this project to come in way under budget armed with a tidy, clever marketing campaign. If all goes well, it could make it’s budget back many times over.
Are you looking forward to another shaky-cam, found-footage extravaganza? Why or why not?
