With the script/development problems plaguing Sam Raimi‘s next Spidey movie, news from the film’s actors has been slowly leaking out. Two days ago Tobey Maguire and Willem Dafoe both talked about development of the fourth Spider-Man and how they are eager to return. Now, on a Italian sports show, Quelli Che il Calcio, John Malkovich confirmed his involvement in the project. Thanks to BadTaste. It (and a great translation by Screen Rant) we have the quote below.

“When conductor Simona Ventura asked him about his role of Vulture in the movie, he not only didn’t deny his involvement, but confirmed that he’s waiting for the final script to be sent to him, and that the movie has been delayed. He also hopes that shooting will begin as soon as possible.”

Raimi has always wanted Vulture to be the villain (check out Wikipedia for a full rundown of the character) and Sony has likely been hesitant. We can only wait to see if more villains (a strong possibility) get added. Screen Rant also has an interesting fact that John Malkovich was “offered the role of the Green Goblin in the first Spider-Man but turned it down, allowing Willem Dafoe to take the spot.” Now his opportunity to join the series arises!

Spider-Man 4’s May 2011 release date was just taken over by Thor. No word yet on when it will be released or when it will even start production. Stay tuned to The Film Stage for updates as they arrive.

What do you think about Malkovich as Vulture? What other villians would you like to see?
