One of my favorite experiences of New York Comic-Con was brushing past actor Joel Edgerton. I’ve admired his recent work in both The Square and Animal Kingdom, with the Australian production outfit Blue-Tongue Films. At NYCC, he was promoting his next film, a prequel to The Thing. THR reports he has another Hollywood film in the works.

Edgerton will join Jennifer Garner in Pete Hedges‘ fable fantasy The Odd Life of Timothy Green. Written by the director, based on Ahmet Zappa‘s story, it “centers on a childless couple, unable to conceive, who bury all their wishes for a baby in a box in their backyard. One day, they wake up to find that a child is born, but the child is not all that it appears.”

Hedges previously directed Dan In Real Life, a moderately enjoyable film that pulled a solid performance out of Steve Carrell. He also scripted the great About a Boy and What’s Eating Gilbert Grape. Edgerton took the role that was previously attached to Mark Wahlberg and Joaquin Phoenix.

The $40 million film starts production early next year.

Are you a fan of Edgerton? Is this a good Hollywood project to join?
