With Dumb and Dumber To now delayed, Jim Carrey may be opening up the possibility of other sequels, if Universal has their way. Deadline reports that the studio is courting the actor to join Jeff Wadlow‘s sequel to Kick-Ass. While it’s still in the early stages, considering how much he loves the first film (just look above at a picture from a Conan O’Brien‘s Legally Prohibited From Being Funny On Television Tour, where he joined him on stage in costume) and his relativity flexible career choices (his last film in the last few years was Mr. Popper’s Penguins), I could certainly see this one going further.
If he were to join the film it would be as The Colonel, or rather Colonel Stars, an ex-military man and born-again Christian who formed the Justice Forever league to find evil. Carrey would become part of the cast including returners Chloe Moretz, Aaron Johnson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Yancy Butler and Nicolas Cage, while Robert Emms comes aboard as Insect Man, Morris Chestnut as Hit-Girl’s guardian, as well as John Leguizamo and Donald Faison in new roles.
After Carrey’s recent career path, I honestly would not mind seeing him join this feature. He’d clearly have a good time, something he cares about most, evident with his recent roles. I’d certainly love for him to get back to his Eternal Sunshine days, but that seems like wishful thinking. While we wait for a possible confirmation, check out a video of him singing with O’Brien below.
Kick-Ass 2 arrives June 2013.
