Coming off their passion project The Three Stooges, which clearly was not felt among audiences or critics, the Farrelly Brothers were planning to return to one of their comedy classics for their next project. We learned this spring that Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels were looking to come back for a Dumb and Dumber sequel and the project was set to kick off this fall. It looks like it has all fallen apart, according to new reports.
ET Online has revealed that Carrey has left the feature, due to the actor becoming “increasingly frustrated by New Line and Warner Brothers, who he felt showed a lack of enthusiasm regarding the project.” Confirmed yet again by his publicist, it looks like this one isn’t happening. One can only hope that the Farrelly Brothers are smart enough to ditch the film altogether, instead of possibly recruiting a new actor. And one assumes Daniels would take no part if Carrey wasn’t by his side.
Daniels’ Aaron Sorkin-scripted The Newsroom is set to debut on HBO this weekend and will be seen in the highly-anticipated Looper this fall, while Carrey will be laughing it up with Steve Carell in The Incredible Burt Wonderstone next year. These two actors clearly don’t need to return to this property for a boost, but if something were to have gone through, Carrey posits the title could have been Dumb and Dumber To.
Are you disappointed there likely will be no sequel to this comedy hit?
