After each new project is a slightly different version than the last — mostly all taking place in the Los Angeles police/crime underground — Training Day writer and Street Kings director David Ayer is at least changing up the aesthetic style of his next feature. Instead of a traditional approach End of Watch is told through handheld camera from the characters in are movie, portrayed by Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Pena, Anna Kendrick, Natalie Martinez, Frank Grillo, America Ferrera and more.

We’ve got a new trailer today in the form a red band look, although aside from a few f-bombs and blood splatters, it’s surprising tame. This shorter looks throws out all the family drama seen in our first trailer and opts for a streamlined barrage of action. Although I’ve heard good buzz — a sign hinted at by a TIFF premiere slot — I’m still not sold on what looks to be a grating style. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think.

Synopsis:

A powerful story of family, friendship, love, honor and courage, End Of Watch stars Academy Award(R) nominee Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena as young Los Angeles police officers Taylor and Zavala as they patrol the city’s meanest streets of south central Los Angeles. Giving the story a gripping, first-person immediacy, the action unfolds through footage from the handheld HD cameras of the police officers, gang members, surveillance cameras, and citizens caught in the line of fire to create a riveting portrait of the city’s most dangerous corners, the cops who risk their lives there every day, and the price they and their families are forced to pay.

End of Watch hits theaters on September 21st, 2012.
