There is something about McG directing an adaptation of a play that my brain can’t quite process. Then again, that also happens when he gets attached to any film. With his awful-looking (and tracking) This Means War set to hit next week, the director is setting his sights on his next film. One of the possibilities could be his take on the Tony Award-winning hit Broadway play Spring Awakening.

Serving as a break-out role for Glee star Lea Michele, E! Online reports that the actress could reprise her role for this version. He stated, “We’re talking to Lea Michele because she made the role of Wendla famous and we’ll see if that pans out and works with the timing of her schedule on [Glee].” McG reportedly fell in love with her voice, saying “When I first got turned onto the show she was in it so it’s her voice that echoes in my heart. I really think she’s wonderful and we’ll see where it takes us.”

The director is planning an Eastern European shoot, telling Collider it is his “version of Romeo and Juliet, West Side Story.” He stated he’ll do a Baz Luhrmann-esque spin on “youth against establishment” plot. With the relatively light topics covered in Glee and especially Michele’s current film choices like New Year’s Eve, I’d be interested in seeing her take the serious themes of abortion, homosexuality, rape, child abuse and suicide to the big-screen. But does it have to be McG? Who knows, maybe this is the genre he needs to create his masterpiece.

What do you think about Michele possibly continuing her role for McG?
