Last week I attended the Night at The Museum: Battle of The Smithsonian premiere, I’ve already posted many of my interviews. Now here’s another one of the quick interviews I got to do with the comedic duo Thomas Lennon and Brad Garant, the men behind this series and Reno 911.

So, how different is it writing Reno 911 versus this? Do you have to censor yourselves?

Thomas Lennon: Zero. Whenever we write a project, the exact same thought process goes into it. We don’t really change anything that were doing. We don’t change our sense of humor, and we really just change the language that we use.

Robert Garant: Yeah, just the language. We’re really just trying to crack each other up. I mean, we’re cutting the same jokes, but we don’t have to bleep every two seconds.

You guys should try that for the third film.

Robert Garant: Hard-R?

Thomas Lennon: Hard-R, the Reno 911 crossover version. I love it.

What did you guys want to do differently with the sequel?

Thomas Lennon: You know, we wanted to make it a little bit bigger. There’s certainly some things that come to life in this one that are on a much bigger scale, like Abraham Lincoln in the Lincoln memorial. We wanted to add the idea of what would happen if you brought the tablet around art, and some of those scenes are really cool.

Robert Garant: We knew from the first one, because it was successful that they would get any comedy guy that we want. Any character we write, we know they’re going to get one of the funniest guys around to play that role. We made a bigger cast with a lot of fun cameos.

Do you guys have any ideas for the third film, and how do you make sure you don’t just rehash the old stuff?

Thomas Lennon: That would be the real trick. We certainly don’t like to talk about that before the movie comes out, sort of bad luck, but boy I would love if these things went on forever. I love these kinds of movies.

Robert Garant: It’s a lot of fun.
