Following his crime drama Lawless, it seems that we get an update every few months on John Hillcoat‘s long-gestating next project Triple Nine, but they don’t seem to result in much traction. Today brings yet another update rounding out the cast, which hopefully means production is finally near. Set to star Christoph Waltz and Cate Blanchett, we now have a new trio of actors coming aboard to join them.

According to The Wrap, Casey Affleck, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Michael B. Jordan are all in talks to the join the project. Based on a screenplay by Matt Cook, the film follows “a group of crooked cops planning a major heist realize they must shoot one of their own in order to get away with it. The lead character is an upstanding young officer who they choose as their victim.”

Affleck would be replacing Charlie Hunnam as the lead in the film, while Ejiofor is looking to star as the criminal who masterminds the heist, and the Fruitvale Station star would take the role of a cop who gets set up. It’s certainly a stellar group of actors that we’d love to see team together, so hopefully Hillcoat and Megan Ellison, who is financing the project, figure out a schedule to kick off production next year.

What do you think of the recent cast additions?
