After breaking out in the rom-com genre with The Princess Diaries just over a decade ago, Anne Hathaway is now set for her biggest year yet, on both the blockbuster side with The Dark Knight Rises and in the awards race with Les Miserables. The actress is now looking towards the future with a smaller project, one drawing her back to the romantic comedy world.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Hathaway is attached to star in a new film titled The Low Self-Esteem of Lizzie Gillespie, which has popped up on the Black List. Coming from the talented Mindy Kaling (The Office, The Mindy Project), we can hopefully breath a sigh of relief that this one won’t fall into the generic trappings of the genre, even though the synopsis does seem a bit run-of-the-mill.

Co-written with Brent Forrester, the film follows “a woman whose lack of self-worth has limited her choice in men to losers. When she is about to hit the bottom of the barrel, life takes an unexpected turn when she is pursued by the hottest guy ever.” Although that logline doesn’t inspire too much confidence, the talent behind this one is enough to instill some excitement. Featuring a co-starring role for Kaling herself, expect a director to be found soon.

Are you looking forward to Hathaway teaming with Kaling?
