Luc Besson is producing machine with Colombiana, Taken, From Paris With Love and the upcoming Lockout just part of his Hollywood slate. He also is involved in a number of foreign productions, but he still is particular when it comes to his directing gigs. The Fifth Element and Leon director went down a different path for his upcoming biopic on activist Aung San Suu Kyi, The Lady, but he will now return to his roots, and take one of the biggest female action stars with him.
Deadline reports that Angelina Jolie has entered talks to star in an “untitled big-scale movie” from the director. The dramatic thriller “is rooted in true scientific elements,” but no other details are known. Jolie is expected to hook up with Ridley Scott on his Gertrude Bell film directly after shooting this, but knowing how many project are piled up in front of her, nothing is concrete.
I’ve heard mostly mixed things about The Lady, so after that experiment for Besson, I can see why he would want to return to his expensive world of tentpoles. Jolie also has her directorial debut arthouse drama In The Land Of Blood And Honey arriving at the end of this month, but we can see she will still be picking more mainstream acting projects. I’ve never been a big fan of Besson, but he usually entertains and I wouldn’t mind see Jolie taking part in one of his big-budget actioners.
Production is expected to begin this spring.
