After starring in David Fincher‘s The Social Network, the only film previously on the horizon for Andrew Garfield was Marc Webb‘s Spider-Man reboot. I’ve been curious to see what small projects he will pick up between now and the 2012 release of that superhero blockbuster, and we now have our first to add to the list.
Variety reports that the rising star will join Jennifer Garner and Marcia Gay Harden in Adrian Lyne‘s Back Roads. The will mark the first film from the director since 2002’s Unfaithful. He was nominated for an Oscar in 1987 for Fatal Attraction and has since made the Lolita remake, Indecent Proposal, and Jacob’s Ladder.
Adapted from Tawni O’Dell‘s novel, the Pennsylvania-set murder mystery follows “a young man (Garfield) who is forced to care for his three younger sisters after their mother is sent to prison for killing her abusive husband.” His romantic interest will be played by Garner and Harden is his court-appointed therapist.
Shooting will start in June, after Spider-Man wraps.
What do you think of this project for Garfield?
