After breaking out with the Carey Mulligan-led drama An Education, Lone Scherfig‘s follow-up seemed to be perceived as a bit of slump, but the Anne Hathaway romantic drama One Day did grab around $60 million worldwide off just a $15 million budget. The director has now found her next feature, once again tackling an adaptation.
Instead of a praised book however, Scherfig is set to bring to screen Laura Wade’s West End play Posh. With Wade adapting the script herself, the film follows the upper-class elite of Oxford University. Our main characters, who are currently being cast, are Miles and Alistair, a pair of freshman who are” determined to join the infamous Riot Club where reputations can be made or destroyed over the course of a single evening.”
Scherfig tackled a bit of the upper class lifestyle in Education and Posh looks to continue that trend as she says it “invites us into a uniquely fascinating and hilarious world to which none of us would normally have access. But this elite and refined world is not what it first seems, especially when its members are ‘chateau’ed and provoked….” Described as “bold, timely and very funny script,” it’s fitting material for Scherfig and as casting continues perhaps original star of the play, Kit Harington, will be back, but we’ll have to wait and see. Production kicks off in May for a likely 2014 release.
