We got the enticing confirmation this week that The Social Network Oscar-winner Aaron Sorkin was going to take on another technology pioneer with a Steve Jobs biopic, based on Walter Isaacson‘s book. The writer has now revealed more details on the project surrounding the late Apple co-founder, including a veritable source that will be helping him during his writing process.
Speaking with Reuters, Sorkin doesn’t have a clear idea yet for the focus of the film, but he wants to dissuade the notion that he’ll do a straightforward, “cradle-to-grave” biopic. He revealed that he’ll be searching through the life of Job for “an element of tension or an obstacle” that he can develop a movie around (see: Mark Zuckerberg and his relationship with Erica Albright).
While he passed unfortunately young, I’d have to imagine Sorkin would focus on something more far-reaching, considering there is more material to work with. He added, “drama is tension versus obstacle. Someone wants something, something is standing in their way of getting it. They want the money, they want the girl, they want to get to Philadelphia – doesn’t matter … And I need to find that event and I will. I just don’t know what it is.”
A figure that might help him find that “it” factor is Jobs’ Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. The man had known Jobs since an early age during high school, and Sony Pictures has officially hired him to assist on not only the technical portion of the script, but the technology pioneer himself. It’s just another level of assurance that this project will be handled with care and hopefully a worthy look into a man that changed the world forever.
Sorkin will begin focusing full-time on the script later in June, after his show The Newsroom hits HBO.
Are you happy to hear Wozniak is involved? What events in Jobs’ life could Sorkin focus on?
