I thought the first trailer for the next comedy from Horrible Bosses director Seth Gordon conveyed just about everything it needed to in terms of plot, but Universal has now let loose a second look at Identity Thief, which adds in a number of supporting characters to flesh things out. Following Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy, the film takes a look at the former’s plea to get his identity back when the latter snatches it up.

This latest look has a few funny, and timely jokes (one regarding Peter Jackson‘s latest adventure in particular) and seems to be a enjoyable mix of slapstick and comedy, but doesn’t look to have quite the same amount of laughs as Gordon’s last feature. Check out the latest trailer below for the film also starring Jon Favreau, Amanda Peet, Tip “T.I.” Harris, Genesis Rodriguez, Morris Chestnut, John Cho, Robert Patrick and Eric Stonestreet.

Synopsis:

In the film, unlimited funds have allowed Diana (Melissa McCarthy) to live it up on the outskirts of Miami, where the queen of retail buys whatever strikes her fancy. There’s only one glitch: The ID she’s using to finance these sprees reads “Sandy Bigelow Patterson”… and it belongs to an accounts rep (Jason Bateman) who lives halfway across the U.S.

With only one week to hunt down the con artist before his world implodes, the real Sandy Bigelow Patterson heads south to confront the woman with an all-access pass to his life. And as he attempts to bribe, coax and wrangle her the 2,000 miles to Denver, one easy target will discover just how tough it is to get your name back.

Identity Thief arrives on February 8th, 2013.
