Cinematical is reporting that Ricardo de Montreuil‘s short film The Raven will be adapted into a feature length film to be distributed by Universal. The 6-minute short essentially revolves around a single chase scene, so the potential freedoms for screenwriter Justin Marks are infinite.

As of right now, the basic storyline is about Chris Black, a man also called The Raven, who is on the run from police drones and other types of science-fiction machinery. The reason he is being chased is unknown, although I assume it will be explored in Marks‘ script.

Montreuil will stay on to direct, while Mark Wahlberg will produce and star in the lead role. Wahlberg will soon appear in the potential Oscar contender The Fighter, so The Raven is obviously a big change of pace for him. Nevertheless, this short-to-feature adaptation is the same process that District 9 took to end up earning several Oscar nominations.
