Anticipation for the Kick-Ass sequel is mounting, especially since the addition of Jim Carrey was confirmed last September. Another glimpse at the film hit the web today today, and it should give fans another reason to look forward to the action film. Universal have released the first official image for Kick-Ass 2 (which will see print in the next issue of Entertainment Weekly), and it features an eyeful of Carrey in full costume as his character Colonel Stars and Stripes, a fellow misfit superhero who tries to convince Kick-Ass (Aaron Johnson) to join his allegiance, Justice Forever. Other than quality, the photo is similar to the ones we previously covered, but the background does provide a better look at the colorful, comic book-like Toronto set. See below:
Stars and Stripes is one of the many new vigilante crime fighters introduced in the follow-up to the super hero hit. Alongside returning crusaders Kick-Ass and Hit Girl, he’ll battle The Mother Fucker— formerly known as The Red Mist – who will again be played by Christopher Mintz-Plasse.
Directed by Jeff Wadlow, Kick-Ass 2 also stars Chloë Moretz, Lyndsy Fonseca, Robert Emms, Yancy Butler, Donald Faison, John Leguizamo, Olga Kurkulina, and Nicolas Cage (briefly). The film is scheduled for release on June 28th.
Do you think the sequel will live up to the first Kick-Ass?
