After writing both High Fidelity and Grosse Pointe Blank, it took around a decade for Steve Pink to get back into Hollywood’s favor, especially after his comedy Accepted was overlooked. Now, after the success of Hot Tub Time Machine, he’s been attached to a number of projects and we’ve got word from The Wrap on another one.
Pink has signed with Relativity Media to helm the Hamptons-set construction comedy Contractors, which follows “two underachieving builders who are hired to build a dream house for a millionaire and his girlfriend who, it turns out, is one of the builder’s ex-girlfriends.” Written by Bob Fisher and David Hemingson, the premise is fairly generic but hopefully Pink will insert his funnybone once again.
In other directing news, Variety is reporting that Paramount and Bad Robot have found a director for their small-budget project God Particle, after picking up the film this summer. J.J. Abrams has reportedly set newcomer Julius Onah to direct the the film, which will be shot between $5-10 million.
Written by Oren Uziel, the film revolves around American astronauts who are left floating in space after an accident with the Large Hadron Collider erases Earth from sight. While some hope does, initially, arrive by way of an incoming European ship, suspicions abound that this is actually a harbinger of doom. It’s intriguing, to say the least, and hopefully Abrams can successfully guide this young filmmaker for his debut.
