As their latest film, the stellar Inside Llewyn Davis, expands in the coming weeks, the Coens are making their way around the press circuit and while they usually stay fairly tight-lipped about what they might do next, we have a few ideas. One project that has been circulating seems to do with the world of opera, but according to a recent interview, it’s another long-gestating script that could see the light of day first.

Speaking with Thompson on Hollywood, Joel Coen talked about their many scripts, saying, “We sometimes have things that are in various stages of completion or being thought about, and then there’s a few things we’ve written over the years that are kind of written and finished. To be quite honest, the things that get written and finished and get put aside for years we’re not that interested in making after awhile. I don’t know why that is.” It looks like interest has been rediscovered for the project Hail Caesar, said to star George Clooney.

“We’ve been working on that one,” Joel Coen said, adding, “There’s a good chance that would be next.” Ethan Coen expanded, saying, “It’s about the movie business and life and religion and faith. Faith and the movie business. It’s still George.” Considering the duo recently said they were interested in a sword-and-sandal epic in Rome, it’s presumed they were referring to this project, as Clooney would be part of an acting troupe putting on the ancient Roman epic. Like most of you, we can’t wait to see what they do next, and check back for details as they come, but enjoy Inside Llewyn Davis while it’s in theaters — it deserves a second, and perhaps third viewing.

What do you think of the Coens helming this potential project?
