Apparently when megastar Will Smith’s not punching hurricanes he’s inking deals to make his kids bankable child stars. After developing the The Karate Kid reboot, as a starring vehicle for his son Jayden, he backed his 10-year-old daughter Willow’s recording artist dreams, and ‘Whip My Hair’ was born. Now according Variety, Smith is looking to give Willow her own movie by remaking the classic children’s musical Annie.

For a kid who loves to sing, this seems an obvious property for a stage mom  supportive parent to take an interest in. The surprising twist to this standard tale is that Jay-Z, who worked with Willow on ‘Whip My Hair,’ will be brought on to work out the music for the feature. I mean, I know Jay-Z is an Annie fan, but I’m still surprised to hear he is considering scoring a kid’s movie. But what does his involvement mean to the remake? Will Annie be set in the modern day? Will there be new songs added? Sony, who’s working with Smith on the project, isn’t saying at this point, though I’d bet this won’t be the same old-school scrapper we’re used to. But that may not be a bad thing.

What do you think of this proposed Annie reboot?
