Post-apocalyptic world? Check. A group of up-and-coming stars battling for survival with a touch of romance? Check. Source material that’s in the hands of every tween across the globe? Check. Yes, all the ingredients are in the pot for the next YA adaptation Hollywood is hoping will hit big, this time coming from James Dashner‘s bestselling series The Maze Runner. As one might expect, the trailer will be attached to Divergent this weekend, but it has landed online a bit early.
Coming from Wes Ball, an acclaimed commercials director and VFX artist making his debut, the plot reads as follows: “When Thomas (Dylan O’Brien) wakes up trapped in a massive maze with a group of other boys, he has no memory of the outside world other than strange dreams about a mysterious organization known as W.C.K.D. Only by piecing together fragments of his past with clues he discovers in the maze can Thomas hope to uncover his true purpose and a way to escape.” Does it have what it takes to be the next Hunger Games?
