In the works for nearly two years, we recently got word that things were moving forward on a Sir Elton John biopic as producers found a helmer with newcomer Michael Gracey. Next in line is securing a leading man and after rumors swirled that Justin Timberlake might step back into the musician’s shoes, we’ve got another name to add to the pile.
According to HitFix, Bronson and The Dark Knight Rises star Tom Hardy is being looked at for the lead role of Elton John in the biopic. While nothing has been formally offered or reciprocated yet, the actor is in the sights of producers, which including John himself. Aside from being completely awesome, Hardy recently wrapped production on Animal Rescue, from Bullhead director Michaël R. Roskam and his Mad Max: Fury Road is still being edited with no release date announced yet.
Scripted by Billy Elliot writer Lee Hall, the project has been described as a “biographical musical fantasy that will weave together John’s life and his music. Producer Steve Hamilton Shaw has promised a story “told in a non-linear and hyper-visual manner that will transport people through the many intense experiences, some wonderful, some not, that helped define Elton as an artist, musician and man.” There’s also word that Ben Foster is being looked at for a young Elton John role, but it sounds like everything is in the early stages at the moment, so check back when confirmation arrives.
Could you see Hardy as Elton John?
