Generating almost $500 million worldwide and launching the careers of stars like Channing Tatum and directors like Jon Chu (who helmed the next G.I. Joe film, coming this summer), the latest iteration of the Step Up series is here. Previously going by Step Up 4Ever, it looks to have lost that amazing last bit, but we have the first trailer today. Newcomer Scott Speer, who worked on the LXD series, has directed a film that looks to mash up some of the car hijinks from the Fast & Furious series, with the insane dancing only a film from this series could deliver. Check out the teaser below.

Synopsis:

Step Up 4 is the next installment in the worldwide smash “Step Up” franchise, which sets the dancing against the vibrant backdrop of Miami. Emily (Kathryn McCormick), the daughter of a wealthy businessman, arrives in Miami with aspirations of becoming a professional dancer, but soon falls in love with Sean (Ryan Guzman), a young man who leads a dance crew in elaborate, cutting-edge flash mobs. The crew, called the MOB, strives to win a contest for a major sponsorship opportunity, but soon Emily’s father threatens to develop the MOB’s historic neighborhood and displace thousands of people. Emily must band together with Sean and the MOB to turn their performance mobs into protest mobs, and risk losing their dreams to fight for a greater cause.

Step Up 4 hits theaters July 27th, 2012.
