If one is tired of the retreaded summer blockbusters this sean, there’s a great deal of strong independent counter-programming that still delivers the thrills one may desire. One such example is Neil Jordan‘s return to the world of vampires with Byzantium. After a pair of trailers, we’ve now got our domestic version ahead of a release next month.
Bringing together Gemma Arterton, Saoirse Ronan and Sam Riley, we praised the drama at Toronto, saying “it has many of the tropes of bloodsucker cinema, but also goes beyond them, creating something epic, bloody, and very enjoyable.” Along with the new trailer and poster below, check out four clips for the film also starring Jonny Lee Miller, Daniel Mays, Caleb Landry Jones, Kate Ashfield, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Uri Gavriel and Thure Lindhardt.
Synopsis:
Two mysterious women seek refuge in a run-down coastal resort. Clara meets lonely Noel, who provides shelter in his deserted guesthouse, Byzantium. Schoolgirl Eleanor befriends Frank and tells him their lethal secret. They were born 200 years ago and survive on human blood. As knowledge of their secret spreads, their past catches up on them with deathly consequence.
Byzantium arrives on June 28th.
