With Hollywood finding little luck when it comes to churning videogames into feature films, a new upcoming project sees them go way back into the vault. Originating in the world of arcades, the classic 1983 videogame Spy Hunter has been at Warner Bros. for quite some time, with directors such as John Woo and Paul W.S. Anderson, but it now looks like they have their man. [Vulture]

After finding success with a videogame-esque aesthetic in his feature debut Zombieland, the studio has brought on Ruben Fleischer to direct and executive producer an adaptation of Spy Hunter. Considering the game had one controlling a car going down a road, destroying things in its path, there’s no telling what Chad St. John‘s original script contains in terms of story or characters.

Perhaps it will be a Battleship-esque take, but the studio is also looking for another screenwriter to come in and provide a new draft. In the meantime, we can look forward to Fleischer’s Gangster Squad, featuring a new climax, land this January and a new versions of the videogame arriving this fall.
