Deadline have revealed that the 2008 Oscar-nominated Spanish documentary La Corona is to be made into a silver screen feature by Fox Searchlight. Fox have already signed on José Rivera, creator of the Oscar-nominated screenplay for The Motorcycle Diaries, to write the script.
Rodrigo Garcia (who wrote/directed this year’s Mother and Child and co-wrote the highly anticipated next film from Alfonso Cuarón, Gravity) is set to direct and Julie Lynn is confirmed as producing. The story of La Corona revolves around a prison pageant where inmates are competing for the coveted ‘queen of the prison’ title. Could be interesting.
Rivera has most recently adapted Jack Kerouac‘s stream-of-consciousness novel On the Road, which is currently being filmed currently with stars Kirsten Dunst, Viggo Mortensen, Amy Adams and Kristen Stewart. Check out the trailer for the short La Corona below.
