Eric Bana will has been confirmed for Elvis Presley, while Danny Huston is President Nixon, and now two more actors have joined the drama. Luke Wilson is in talks to join the cast of Cary Elwes‘ directorial debut Elvis & Nixon and according to THR, Entourage star Kevin Connolly has already signed the paperwork.
The film will chronicle the historic and somewhat awkward meeting between Presley and Nixon back in 1970. According to the script, The King arrives in Washington with his entourage to some odd culture clashes that end up causing some tension. Although not much information has been revealed, we do know that Connolly will play a limo driver named Ronnie and Wilson could play the role of Sonny, one of Presley’s “Memphis Mafia” who traveled with him to Washington.
It’s hard enough for me to imagine Bana as Elvis, and now with the addition of Wilson and Connolly, I’m not really sure how this project will turn out. Both actors are known for the nice/funny guy characters, so it will definitely be something different for them if this project turns out to be on the more serious side. But there does seems to be a lot riding against this project — with the odd casting choices, Elwes’ directing and writing debut and other Elvis biopics making headlines. The odd mixture of everything could end up helping the movie, but it’s still early to tell.
With casting underway, Elvis & Nixon will start filming in January.
