While Hollywood attempts to jump on the life story of cyclist Lance Armstrong with not one, but three competing biopics, as usual, a documentarian is already out of the gate with his take on the story. Coming from the prolific Alex Gibney, who already released We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks this summer, he’s tackling another hot topic with his latest work.
Providing a different angle, he was actually looking to make a film on the comeback of Armstrong in 2009. Although he had a wealth of footage, it was shelved with doping accusations hit, and as we know, the athlete was indeed disqualified last year. Combining his previous footage and new interviews, following a TIFF premiere, Gibney’s The Armstrong Lie will arrive this fall and the first trailer has landed today. Check it out below, along with the full Toronto International Film Festival press conference, which starts around the 12-minute mark.
The Armstrong Lie opens on November 8th.
