He’ll come to TIFF with this Saoirse Ronan-led apocalyptic romance How I Live Now, but for his next project, The Last King of Scotland director Kevin MacDonald has his mind on a biopic. According to Variety, he’s become attached to direct Last Train to Memphis, an Elvis Presley biopic set up over at Fox. Produced by Mick Jagger, the film will take on the early days of Presley as he went from a normal high school kid to rock star. Based on Peter Guralnick‘s biography, an open casting is set to take place soon for this young Elvis.

In other directing news, up-and-coming helmer J. Blakeson has been searching for his studio break-out following his taut thriller The Disappearance of Alice Creed and after becoming attached to a number of projects, he finally may have found it. The Wrap reports that Sony Pictures have set him on The Fifth Wave, a film based on an upcoming YA trilogy from Rick Yancey. Following a teenager on the search for her brother following an alien abduction, hopefully he can break the tired young adult adaptation mold, so check back as more details come in.
