After getting her start in the family drama 7th Heaven and starring in various blockbusters over the years, it seems that Jessica Biel is reverting back to the indie realm of film with her latest project. According to Variety, Biel is in final negotiations to star alongside Skins‘ Kaya Scodelario in Francesca Gregorini‘s Emanuel and the Truth About Fishes.
Gregorini has written the screenplay for the film, which she also did for her 2009 directorial debut Tanner Hall. The script follows “Emanuel (Scodelario), a troubled 17-year-old girl who babysits her new neighbor Linda’s “baby,” which is actually a very life-like doll.” She befriends Linda, who is the spitting image of Emanuel’s late mother, as she goes along with the delusion.
Biel is set to play Linda, “who has been completely traumatized by the death of her child and now cares for the baby doll as if it were actually alive.” Sounds pretty creepy. Matthew Brady is producing under is MRB Production banner alongside Gregorini, with Paul Schiff, Kenny Goodman, Kevin Iwashina and Jonathan Gray serving as executive producers.
Although Biel‘s latest film, New Year’s Eve, isn’t anything to write home about, she has had decent roles in The Illusionist and the upcoming, promsing Devil in the Deep Blue Sea. Although Biel is far from my favorite actress in the world she does have the experience, which will be good considering Scodelario is a relatively newcomer to Hollywood. If anything, the intriguing and scary plot will pull in audiences for a likely 2013 release.
What do you think of Biel joining Truth About Fishes?
