After starring in Whit Stillman‘s first three films, Metropolitan, Barcelona and The Last Days of Disco, actor Chris Eigeman jumped behind the camera for the first time in 2007 with his directorial debut, the Famke Janssen-led drama Turn the River. Now, around six years laters, he’s prepping his follow-up, one with a bigger scope and expanded scope.
As ScreenDaily reports, Jesse Eisenberg, Diane Kruger and Emile Hirsch have been lined up to star in the 1943-set drama Midnight Sun. With a script from Eigeman, the film will follow Eisenberg and Hirsch as two recent college graduates who begin working for the US Government. They are quickly sent to New Mexico to to work on a top-secret project, hinted to be the creation of the atomic bomb. Kruger comes into the frame as on their wives as “they drop their jazz-filled lives in New York and move to a secret community of scientists in the desert.”
We’ve seen numerous films regarding many aspects of WWII, but this is one of the most intriguing to come across in recent years, especially with its top-notch cast. Pulitzer prize-winning Richard Rhodes, author of The Making of the Atomic Bomb, will advise in this development process as production begins this summer for a likely 2014 release.
