It looks like James Cameron wasn’t kidding when he said Avatar would occupy the rest of his career. Coming off the highest grossing film of all-time, there are many other projects one would likely rather see him take on (including Battle Angel, now on the backburner), but the helmer is staying firmly in the world of Pandora. And this is now clear as can be, according to new information from one of the film’s stars.
Showbiz411 recently spoke to Sigourney Weaver, who said that she has set aside her schedule to film not one, not two, but three sequels to Avatar. Production is said to begin this fall and the actress admitted she has no idea how long it will take to film a 2nd, 3rd and 4th movie back-to-back, or even the mechanics of it all and that she’ll simply, “show up.”
One has to give it to Cameron for pushing the envelope each and every time, but my only fear is if the director will have enough solid material for three back-to-back materials. As gorgeous as the first film was, it was a relatively light introduction to this world. As we explore more of it, I sincerely hope that Cameron has plans to flesh out this universe in a dramatically engaging fashion.
Don’t expect Avatar 2 until at least 2015 and the sequels likely released within 2-3 years after that.
Do you want to see three more Avatar films, or something else from Cameron?
