Just yesterday, as a high-profile Call of Duty commercial landed from director James Mangold, we were discussing that the director has been skilled in bouncing around from genre to genre. Including the drama Girl, Interrupted, the rom-com Kate & Leopold, the twisty horror thriller Identity, the Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line, the remake of the western 3:10 to Yuma, we never quite know what to expect from the helmer. Coming off this summer’s The Wolverine, it looks like that notion will change, as he’s eying his first sequel.

20th Century Fox has already begun talks with the helmer (and Hugh Jackman, of course) to return for a sequel to The Wolverine. While there is no word yet on what a follow-up will bring, Mangold is set to write the treatment, according to Deadline. Bringing over $400 million worldwide this summer, the Japan-set blockbuster proved to be one of the most enjoyable and well-directed tentpoles of the season (besides that third act), so hopefully Mangold continues to a worthwhile route with a sequel.

In the meantime, one can see the trailer for Bryan Singer‘s X-Men: Days of Future Past ahead of a release next May.

Did you enjoy The Wolverine? What would you like to see in a sequel?
