Before he builds a boat with Darren Aronofsky this summer, Russell Crowe is going back in time but not that far. We got the first look at Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean in Tom Hooper’s adaptation of Les Miserables last week. Now, thanks to DailyMail, we’ve got our first peek at Russell Crowe as antagonist Inspector Javert in the next drama from the Oscar-winning director of The King’s Speech. On horse, he looks perfectly fitting as the cruel police inspector, unlike Jackman’s startlingly transformation. We got a new pic of him below as well, for the film also starring Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter.
Update: Jackman himself tweeted what looks to be the first official production still from the film, which can be seen below.
Synopsis:
Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption—a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.
Les Miserables arrives on December 14th, 2012.
