Although he’s been behind the camera many times (as well as just about every other facet of filmmaking), James Franco‘s biggest project yet as director just wrapped up and we’ve got the first look. Production kicked off in Mississippi late this summer for his adaptation of William Faulkner‘s As I Lay Dying, which brings together Danny McBride,Tim Blake NelsonLogan Marshall-GreenAhna O’Reilly and Jim Parrack, as well as Franco himself.

Seemingly in character, one can see Franco will some crew and cast (via We Got This Covered) as they recreate the 1920s setting of the original novel. Faulkner’s story follows the death of Addie Bundren and her family’s struggle with carrying out her wish to be buried in Jefferson. While Franco’s few feature efforts haven’t been too impressive, hopefully he can do justice to this literary classic. Check out the photos above and below.

As I Lay Dying is expected to hit theaters next year.
