Terrence Malick recently wrapped shooting on his upcoming romantic drama, possibly titled The Burial. The Wrap has exclusive (and extensive) details about the previously unknown plot. The film stars Ben Affleck, Olga Kurylenko, Javier Bardem, Rachel McAdams, Rachel Weisz and Barry Pepper. Check out the synopsis culled from call sheets below:
Set over a period of years, the film stars Affleck as Neil, a failed writer stuck in a loveless marriage with Marina (Kurylenko), whose expiring visa put pressure on Neil to propose. Neil and Marina have a daughter (Tatiana Chilin) together, but both of them are looking outside the marriage. Neil is drawn to Jane (McAdams) and Marina betrays her husband by having an affair with Charlie (Charles Baker).
Both Neil and Marina seek guidance from Father Quintana (Bardem), a priest frustrated by his inability to live his own life because he’s too busy advising his parishioners on theirs. The couple’s dysfunctional relationship begins to take a toll on their daughter, who starts having problems in school.
Now, they have many more details on the site if you would like to check them out. I’m content with strictly knowing the above and let the rest be a surprise. It sounds like standard drama on paper, but I’m excited for Malick’s take.
We also have more immediate, exciting news via Joblo. Attached to ALL prints of Darren Aronofsky‘s Black Swan this weekend, will be a 2-minute trailer for The Tree of Life. This will mark our very first look at any sort of footage for the film. I’m highly debating seeing Black Swan a third time just to check this out.
