After last summer’s Hercules proved Dwayne Johnson might not have what it takes to carry a blockbuster on his own shoulders, he’ll return for another chance shortly. Re-teaming with his Journey 2 director Brad Peyton, they’ve graduated from family adventures to summer tentpoles with the WB project San Andreas, one that pits The Rock against a California-set earthquake.
While some of the setpieces look like decent fun, much of it looks too retreaded to conjure any genuine interest, particularly with the bare bones characters and plot. Also starring Carla Gugino, Alexandra Daddario, Ioan Gruffudd, Archie Panjabi, Hugo Johnstone-Burt, Art Parkinson, and Paul Giamatti, check out the new trailer and poster below.
After the infamous San Andreas Fault finally gives, triggering a magnitude 9 earthquake in California, a search and rescue helicopter pilot (Dwayne Johnson) and his estranged wife make their way together from Los Angeles to San Francisco to save their only daughter. But their treacherous journey north is only the beginning. And when they think the worst may be over…it’s just getting started.
San Andreas opens on May 29th.
