Exclusive update: We’ve confirmed with Mr. Trebilcook that his treatment for Die Hard 6 does exist and it indeed includes elements in his previous spec script for Die Hard 4. Check out the original story below as we await more details.

Considering 20th Century Fox’s clear lack of interest when it comes to the actual quality of the Die Hard franchise, it’s a fool’s errand to get invested in where John McClane will be heading next. Following A Good Day to Die Hard, which despite receiving dreadful reviews secured a worldwide gross of over $300 million, we hoped the character would simply hang up his hat, but this will not be case.

According to Total Film, Bruce Willis will be back again as a treatment is currently in the works from Ben Trebilcook. As some fans may know, he actually wrote Die Hard 4 spec script that was never used by the studio, but new details have us thinking it is being brought back for this sixth iteration.

Total Film adds that after saving Russia, McClane will start the story in New York City, then hop over to Tokyo for the bulk of the action. While they give no other details on the story, Tokyo was the center of Trebilcook’s previous Die Hard 4 spec, which saw McClane’s son working for Nakatomi Corporation. They also reveal that the current name of this new film is Die Hardest, which was also the title of the writer’s previous script.

We’ll have to see if any of these details match up, but for now Trebilcook says, “It is extremely faithful to the franchise and characters and is a natural progression.” He also adds, “It’s also a very plausible storyline,” which hints at the plot perhaps getting back to its roots and opting out of a superhero-esque lead character. Regardless, another Die Hard film is coming our way, whether you like it or not.
