Director David Yates, recently of the Harry Potter series, has apparently found his next project. Variety is reporting that the English-born director has signed on to helm the film Your Voice In My Head, the film adaptation of English novelist Emma Forrest‘s memoir of the same name.
The memoir is Forrest’s account of a time of great personal turbulence in her life, when her long-standing relationship fell apart and her psychiatrist died.Yates, who has kept himself busy directing the last four Harry Potter films, seems enthusiastic about the idea of getting back into smaller projects more in tune with the BBC productions he come up through. “It’s a small film, hard hitting and with elements of magic realism.” Yates told Variety, “Compared to [Harry] Potter it would cost tuppency ha’penny, and for that reason it would be incredibly liberating to make.”
The film is still looking for financing, but production shingle Ruby Films is hoping to tap funding from Warner Bros., where Yates directed the Harry Potter films. Yates has also been linked to a Doctor Who adaptation, but that would be way down the road.
Are you happy to see Yates returning to smaller fare, or would you prefer he sticks with the big budget movies that have been his bread and butter lately?
