Currently developing his most promising movie in some time, Tim Burton recently found an initial cast for his dramedy Big Eyes with Christoph Waltz and Amy Adams, and now another actor has been added to the ensemble. According to THR, Danny Huston (Children of Men) has joined the biopic from Ed Wood writers Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, which follows the pair of Walter and Margaret Keane, who achieved international recognition during the ’60s with “pop-eyed paintings.” Huston will take the role of “a burnt-out, heavy-drinking gossip reporter” in The Weinstein Company film that will likely see a release next year.
In other casting news, some major TV stars are heading to the big screen. First up, THR lets us know that Community‘s Joel McHale and The Borgias‘ Sean Harris have been added to Scott Derrickson‘s Sinister follow-up, the supernatural thriller Beware the Night. Set to also star Eric Bana, Olivia Munn and Edgar Ramirez, the film follows Bana as a New York City police force who comes into contact with a number of demonic beings. McHale will be taking the dramatic role of Bana’s partner, “an experienced and tough cop,” while Harris is a possessed soldier.
Lastly, with Smash concluding its run, star Katharine McPhee (fun fact: she actually briefly appeared in Community) is taking to lead roles on the big screen after dabbling in films such as Shark Night 3D and Peace, Love, & Misunderstanding. According to Deadline, she’s lined up the lead role in Depravity, a thriller scripted by Dennis Lehane (Shutter Island, Mystic River). Directed by Paul Tamasy (The Fighter), whose oil spill script The Finest Hours is set to be directed by RED‘s Robert Schwentke, this film follows roommates who mistakenly murder an innocent man and chaos ensues.
