In June, when Crank directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor signed on to direct Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance my interest level was resurrected from the the depths of hell. That is precisely where the directors have gone to find the villain  for the next installment of the Nicolas Cage comic-hero blockbuster. [Heat Vision]

Ciarán Hinds (The Debt, Munich) has signed on to the play the devil, “who wants to take over his mortal son’s body on the boy’s birthday.” Johnny Blaze/Ghost Rider will be “hiding out in remote Eastern Europe and struggling to repress his curse.” Italian actress-singer Violante Placido, who recently starred in The American, “will play the boy’s mother” whose body gets taken over by Hinds.

This sounds exactly like the pure insanity I expect from Neveldine/Taylor. I just hope this comic adaptation turns out better than the last project the duo was attached to: Jonah Hex.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance will shoot in Romania and Turkey starting late November.

Are you looking forward to Hinds as the devil?
