Although he has been keeping busy directing (his third feature landing this week with Argo) Ben Affleck still finds time to get in front of the camera, not only for his own films but other projects as well. With his Terrence Malick collaboration To the Wonder and the thriller Runner, Runner landing next year, he’s now looking at another major role.
According to Deadline, Warner Bros. wants to continue working with Affleck and has entered talks with him to star in their upcoming film Focus. As we heard last spring, directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa are set to direct the film and they even wanted their Crazy, Stupid, Love. stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone to star. But, as one can see, that isn’t happening as Affleck would take Gosling’s role and the studio is looking for another female lead.
If Affleck signs, he’d play a “veteran con man who gets involved with a newcomer to the grifter business. They get involved romantically but that becomes perilous in a business where they lie and cheat for a living. The complications of the encounter haunt them when they meet up again in the future.” With no other projects lined up for the actor, I don’t see why he’d decline this opportunity, so hopefully things come together.
What do you think of Affleck leading focus?
