It isn’t surprising to most audiences when silly romantic-comedies come and go without much of an impact. The emotions found in them are usually on the base level, instantly fleeting as one exits the theaters. Then there are some that make one question the thought process beyond the plot. The latest in that category is the next film from Fantastic Four and Barbershop director Tim Story. And it isn’t just because woman-beater Chris Brown is part of the ensemble (but they are certainly hiding him from the poster and the majority of the trailer).
In Think Like a Man, the female cast is led to believe that in order to find love and succeed in their relationships they need to get in the mindset of a male. Huh? Instead of acting like intelligent, independent woman that can form their own decisions, they are asked to read a book (to my surprise, actually exists) that is said to push forward sexist, stereotyping anecdotes. It gets worse when the males feel betrayed that the author figured out all their hidden “secrets” and they plan to “teach the women a lesson of their own.” I feel like there is a much bigger “lesson” at hand here that should have been taught before this film went into production.
