In an interesting teaming effort, Cameron Diaz and Benicio Del Toro have been cast to star in Exclusive Media’s Agent: Century 21. Predominant Danish commercial and music video director Adam Hashemi will be making his feature length debut, from a script by Stuart Little‘s Greg Brooker. [THR]
The project “tells the story of Mary Kay Curly (Diaz), a recent divorcee who cannot catch a break. Desperate to protect her real estate job and her kids, she agrees to take on an unpleasant task for her boss that gets her kidnapped and tossed into the center of a Mexican drug war.” We’re not really getting word on who Del Toro will be playing, but I can only assume he’ll come in the form of a Mexican drug lord, of sorts.
Andrew Lazar and David Greenblatt are producing alongside Shane Black. Exclusive co-chairman Guy East and Nigel Sinclair stated the following of the action comedy, “Agent: Century 21 is an adrenaline-infused comedy that brings together two of the hottest stars in Hollywood. It’s a dream combination, and with our friend Andrew producing the film, it doesn’t get much better than this.”
Although they may think it to be a “dream combination,” I can’t help but feel a little uneasy by the Diaz/ Del Toro union. I’m a fan of Del Toro, that’s a given, but I can’t see his acting talent working that well with Diaz. With an influx of crime/suspense/action comedies hitting the big screens in recent years — I’m reminded of Killers, Diaz‘s Knight and Day — I’m just hoping Hashemi and Brooker can deliver something a little more worthwhile.
What do you think of Diaz and Del Toro for Agent: Century 21?
