Approaching 80, the legendary Alain Delon certainly picks his projects carefully, so when he decides on his next, our interest is about as piqued as it gets. It looks like such a project is coming together as news of his involvement in a drama about the Armenian Genocide has arrived today.
Producer Valery Saharyan revealed his plans to Arka, announcing that Adrien Brody and Dustin Hoffman have also come on board the film titled Patient that’s currently searching for a director. With Saharyan’s own grandmother being a survivor of the 1915 genocide, he says, “She jumped into the burning tandoor being confident that she would die. But she survived and lived for 111 years, telling all the horrors she saw with her own eyes to me.”
The specific plot will focus on a psychiatric clinic in Paris where Armenian composer Komitas recalls the horrors of the events. Never able to recover from the trauma, he stayed in the clinic for two decades before he died. While Brody and Delon are both up for main roles, it’s not clear which will take on the part of Komitas. In another tidbit, the Armenian frontman of System of a Down, Serj Tankian, will be writing the score, and one can check back for more details as they arrive.
