Hitfix reported today that at a press conference for the 82nd Academy Awards Sid Ganis announced “The final outcome, of course, will be the same – one Best Picture winner – but the race to the finish line will feature 10, not just five, great movies from 2009.” The nominees will be announced in February and the ceremony will be on March 7th.
It is too bad that this wasn’t instituted last year for The Dark Knight, Wall-E, and The Wrestler to have a shot. This is a horrible decision that makes the nominations worthless. I understand trying to include more films, but the fact they can’t decide on just five films makes me question the awards at all.
