“There was added pressure, in that I’m from [Britain] and there was a queue of Americans who probably felt more affinity to the role,” Unbroken star Jack O’Connell recently said when it came to getting the role. “What I knew went in my favor is I’ve always been fascinated and very influenced by that generation. I wanted to put that across to [Angelina Jolie]. The enormity of things, I choose to not look at so much. It’s not a question of size, it’s a question of content. That’s what I get excited about. So of course with Unbroken I had plenty of content to get excited about.”
With a Christmas Day release and no public screenings yet planned (unless you’re in Australia), it’ll be some time before we get to see that content, but today another preview has landed. Revealing more of the story based on Olympian and war hero Louis Zamperini — who survived in a raft for 47 days after a near-fatal plane crash in WWII, only to be caught by the Japanese Navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp — it looks like a potentially thrilling drama. Check out the new trailer below and for more on the story, watch a 37-minute documentary on Zamperini.
Unbroken opens on December 25th.
